Instructors for 2012-2013

Mathematics Instructors:  The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Northern Arizona University invites applications for one or more non-tenure track, one-year instructor positions for the 2012-2013 academic year.  Positions will begin 20 August 2012.  Instructors teach lower-division mathematics, mathematics education, and / or statistics courses up to 15 credit hours (usually four courses) per semester during the academic year.  Instructors participate in department and university service activities and engage in commensurate scholarship and/or professional development.  The salary for a new instructor is $35,000.  This is a one-year position; however, there is the possibility of renewal contingent upon department need, individual performance and the availability of funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education OR a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • At least one year of experience teaching mathematics and/or statistics courses at high school or college level. 
  • Applicant must be able to begin work, with all degrees completed, on 20 August 2012.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of high quality teaching.
  • Strong academic record.
  • The ability to teach a wide variety of lower-division courses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience and / or commitment necessary to work with a diverse population. 
  • Abilities and experience that align well with department needs such as teaching hybrid courses or modular-based courses and collaborating on innovative teaching strategies
