The Teacher Academy.  Pittsburgh

The numbers don’t lie.  In Pittsburgh, only 12 percent of African-American eighth-grade males are proficient in math, compared with 44 percent of white males.  At The Teacher Academy Residency, we believe that all children can learn at high levels and meet grade level standards. Our goal is to increase the academic achievement of all students in Pittsburgh Public Schools to fulfill our promise of high-quality public education to all Pittsburgh students.

The Teacher Academy Residency is seeking a select group of outstanding professionals and recent college graduates to use their math skills, and their desire to teach students with special needs, to become highly effective middle and high school teachers to students in the district’s most challenged schools. We are committed to providing Pittsburgh students with a new generation of educators who will work relentlessly to significantly increase student achievement in their classrooms.

You can use your skills and talents to become a Math/Special Education teacher in Pittsburgh Public Schools and help to close these achievement gaps.

Secondary math classes in Teacher Academy Residency range from basic math skill classes to core subjects such as Algebra and Geometry to more advanced subjects such as Calculus.  Through the Residency, professionals talented in math have the opportunity to improve the quality of math education in Pittsburgh.
